Choose a home health device
A good home health device is one the whole family can use, gives consistent readings and has clear warranty support. Each measurement needs a different device — the tool below points you to the right group in thirty seconds.
What do you want to keep an eye on?
Who will use it most?
What matters most to you?
Blood pressure: choose an upper-arm monitor
An upper-arm monitor usually gives steadier readings than a wrist model, especially for older adults. Match the cuff to the arm circumference and look for large digits and memory. See blood pressure monitors and how to measure blood pressure at home.
Thermometers: digital for everyone, infrared for babies
A digital underarm thermometer is cheap and reliable. Infrared forehead or ear thermometers are fast when a baby is asleep but need correct positioning. Avoid mercury thermometers. See thermometers.
SpO2 and glucose: check the consumables
A fingertip oximeter should have an OLED screen and a pulse waveform; children need a paediatric clip. For glucose meters the test strips are the long-term cost: choose a brand whose strips are easy to buy and budget for a year of them.
Devices are for tracking, not diagnosis
Home readings help you and your doctor see trends. If readings look abnormal or you have symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath or confusion, seek medical care or call emergency services (115 in Vietnam).
